Shearwater becomes Sharewater
The Shearwater, with its distinctive, ‘flutter-glide’ flight, is a ubiquitous seabird across the inshore waters of the top half of New Zealand, and other coastal environments over the world. We landed on Sharewater as a name (a play on the name of our little marine friend) because it represented our closeness with the marine environment - similar to the way Shearwater’s fly very close to the water and seemingly cutting or "shearing" the tips of waves to move across wave fronts with a minimum of active effort.
Supporting the Shearwater and our other native birds.
As part of our commitment to the marine environment, we donate to and support the Hawke’s Bay Cape Sanctuary. The Cape Sanctuary was formed in 2006 and relies on private funding and a huge number of committed volunteers. The Sanctuary combines commercial farm, tourism & forestry with community lead conservation to encourage and promote the preservation, research, public education, and sustainable management of endangered bird life in the region.
