Harbour planning technology by harbour planning experts

As a fully operational port servicing bulk, container and cruise vessels, Napier Port understand the intricate nature of harbour planning and marine management. We know that no two days are the same and that planning is a process of managing constant change and carefully balancing outcomes.

We have also seen that most Harbour Management Systems misunderstand the people who use them and miss the mark with their feature sets. That’s why we developed Sharewater, a platform for marine teams by marine teams.

Sharewater knows your world, because it’s ours too.

The origins of Sharewater are simple - Napier Port needed a Harbour Management System (HMS) that worked with its marine and land-based teams, but wanted one that truly reflected port operations. Other systems were too generic or I.T. driven and didn’t seem to understand the ever-changing marine world or the people who work in it. Sharewater was developed to meet this need and put marine teams in control.

The Sharewater HMS was built from the ground up to give ports increased visibility on berth activity, management of key marine resources and make it easy to maintain control of a complex environment. It was built with a core focus on marine operations, so you’ll always know  how vessels movements are tracking and what teams need to do, and provide you with all the information you need to successfully eliminate resource conflict and save time.

1. Allocate accordingly

Planners and marine teams already understand that the allocation of berths and resources for visiting vessels can be complex; it’s a constant juggling act and about managing expectations.

That’s why we’ve built Sharewater to be the kind of allocation and planning system that gives you and your team detailed, marine specific insights - insights that you can use to schedule and resource with the right decisions at the right time.

2. Keep the ‘flow’ going

Sharewater manages the planning and operation of vessel movements, but at its core, it is about bringing together marine individuals and teams to create daily operational ‘flow’.

The aim of Sharewater is to create efficiency, where the planning and marine team use minimal effort to reduce the berthing time of vessels and the use of resources needed, no matter what the terminal configuration or the way that priority control is managed.

3. Expecting the unexpected

One key aspect of marine operations is the presence of uncertainty. With changing constraints related to vessels and environmental factors, initial plans seldom go unchanged.

We’ve built Sharewater to better manage this uncertainty, by helping you take a more practical approach with tools that work for you to ensure good planning decisions keep being made and where ‘flow’ is maintained across your vessel movements.

4. Responding to change

Changing berth and resource allocations are the root cause of all operational problems within a port. We know this, and so Sharewater was designed to provide a high degree of operational visibility and allow ports’ teams to work together, under different scenarios and monitor quickly changing situations.

While each team has different objectives, Sharewater acts as your single source of truth for better collective decisions within your port environment.

5. Doing it all over again

Busier that ever, planners and marine teams are faced with a delicate trade-off between service and cost with multiple vessel visits.

The key to success in this process is well informed and well aligned people and teams. Sharewater has been developed using our in-depth understanding of marine roles and processes in order to better connect your 24/7 marine activities and offer your team an unmatched level of visibility across these activities.
